Helen Bruce Workshop!

Saturday 16th May, 2026, 10am – 4pm in the Aboyne Bowling Club Hut

For those few not familiar with Helen’s style, its what I would term “emotive abstract”: Helen reduces landscapes to a few simple shapes and rough lines and yet her pictures still manage to capture and convey the pleasure one gets from a picturesque scene, see below. I just wish I could do the same!

Elaine will talk about the creative journey she has been on over the last 20 years. She will describe how her love of poetry led her to train as a therapeutic writing facilitator, and how this practice of writing, which silences the inner critic, ultimately enabled her to take up a paint brush again after swearing off such artistic practice back in the 1980s!

Journal Workshop with Lynn Glennie

Saturday, 20th June 2026, at Aboyne Bowling Club

Have you ever thought about using a journal?

Come and explore the possibilities with a journal making workshop – from junk journals to art journals, repurposing old book pages, altered papers and ephemera. Make a journal (or two) from these papers, fabric, braid, beads, threads etc. The possibilities are endless as we explore many different styles of journal.

There will be lots of paper supplies available for you to use for this workshop. If you sign up for this class you will be sent a list of basic supplies to bring.

If you would like to book a place – there are 12 available – please let me know as soon as possible. The usual rules apply: first come first served, paid up UDAS members have priority, cost is £25 for members, £30 for non-members!

Plein air day with Susie Hunt at Castle Fraser

Saturday 8th August, 2026 at Castle Fraser

Susie Hunt (many of you will know from previous UDAS workshops) is tutoring a day outdoors at inspirational Castle Fraser.

Susie will send details of the day and things to bring along nearer the time.

As usual it will be £25 for her tutoring, NTS parking fee bring lunch etc. We may be able to car share if possible.
