Denise Hansford

A scientist and academic throughout my working life, I came to art in retirement.   Finding UDAS gave me the opportunity to learn from lots of different, wonderful artists, both tutors and fellow participants in workshops.   I was lucky enough, after several years of trying every medium, to discover my own artistic voice in wet-in-wet, instinctive watercolours, when for me painting became fun and fulfilling.  An artist friend said to me recently, after watching me paint, that ‘it is like meditation for you’ and it is.    When I can totally lose myself in putting paint on paper, that is when the magic happens and the essence of a remembered landscape appears, usually of a West Coast or mountain view.
